PM: Cambodia's Annual Borrowing is Less Than 20% of National Budget

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has said that while Cambodia still receives foreign financial assistance annually, this amount currently does not even equal to 20% of the total national budget.

He made this statement at the launch ceremony of the fourth phase of the Public Financial Management Reform Program, held at the Sokha Hotel in Phnom Penh on Monday morning, 20 March 2023.

The Prime Minister recalled that 30 years ago, Cambodia's domestic income only made up around one-third of the total national budget.

"About two-thirds of the national budget needed to be met by foreign financial assistance [in the past]," he said. "This [change] is a tangible result that we have achieved in line with the leadership policy of the past: living reform is not dead reform."

According to the Prime Minister, the expectations of nation-building outlined in the 1993 Constitution — undertaking responsibility to build the nation's future destiny, to grow and transform Cambodia into a peaceful and prosperous country — have come true, as a result of his leadership vision and many achievements made in economic reform.
